To: All incoming students (Class of 2017)
Date: June 19, 2013
Subject: Welcome, with Information about W&L Registration
Welcome to W&L, from the staff of the University Registrar's office. We look forward to working with you in the coming weeks, over the next four years, and beyond. Please begin using your W&L email if you haven't already.
Although we work to protect and maintain your student record and track your requirements for graduation, we imagine that you're most interested in registering for classes - how to register, when you'll register, etc.
You have probably already used your WebAdvisor account for looking at the Generals Payment System. Later this summer we will let you know more about how to check your incoming credits, matriculate (check in) and eventually register.
W&L's First-Years (FYs) register for fall classes during Orientation. In early September, you will learn the mechanics of registration, meet with your adviser, and register for your fall courses. You don't have to learn how to register and pick classes this summer (though some of your friends going to other colleges and universities may be doing this now).
But you can take care of certain important items now in preparation for class registration.
• Contact the College Board to have all Advanced Placement scores sent directly to W&L. We do not accept student copies or the unofficial postings on the high school transcript. See the contact information at go.wlu.edu/AP.
• If you are an International Baccalaureate student, be sure to have your IB scores reported to W&L. See the contact information at go.wlu.edu/IB.
• If you have completed college-level work either during high school or this summer, complete the First-Year Student Credit Transfer Request form available through the GHQ or at www.wlu.edu/documents/registrar/forms/froshcredit.pdf. This form and official transcripts from the other college must be received by August 15.
• Explore our website at registrar.wlu.edu for many more links to resources about the academic program, including the AP and IB policies, Foundation and Distribution Requirements ("FDRs", the basic graduation requirements), and other policies and advice. You should especially look through the academic catalog at catalog.wlu.edu.
Feel free to email us anytime at email@example.com and be sure to read email from us through the year. We also have an Announcements section in the middle of our web page. And follow our office Facebook and Twitter accounts, where we post changes to registration and reminders about various deadlines during the year.
We hope you enjoy the rest of the summer. See you in August, in Lexington, if not before.
