Washington and Lee University hosted its second Say Thanks Day in conjunction with National Philanthropy Day on November 13-14, 2013. In continuing this new student tradition, the goal of Say Thanks Day is to enhance student awareness of and appreciation for alumni, parent and friend support. This campus-wide event is an opportunity for all students to learn about the Annual Fund and its impact on each student’s education at W&L.
During a full-day event held in Elrod Commons, staff, along with Kathekon members, encourage students to thank alumni and parents for their support through thank you notes and video messages. Students are educated on facts about how financial contributions from alumni, parents, and friends impact their education. Over 450 thank you notes were written by undergraduate students along with a video message (below) from students. During the day, students spread the word by wearing a sticker that read “I said THANKS”. Also this year, the Law School joined Say Thanks Day by hosting morning coffee and donuts during a thank you writing session. Law faculty, staff and students thanked over 150 law alumni and friends.
