WLUR will broadcast Washington and Lee's 2012 Republican Mock Convention live, featuring gavel-to-gavel coverage from Thursday through Saturday, February 9-11.
Tyler Grant '12 and Todd Smith-Schoenwalder '14, hosts of the weekly political talk show "On the Hill", will anchor the station's coverage from the Warner Center. They will also preview the convention with a special edition of "On the Hill", airing Wednesday, February 8, from 9:00-10:00 p.m.
Live coverage of the Mock Convention will kick off at 5:00 p.m. Thursday with a debate between political pundits Ann Coulter and James Carville, moderated by W&L alumni Mike Allen '86 and Kelly Evans '07, and a speech from former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Friday's coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. with the opening session of the convention, featuring West Virginia Rep. Shelley Moore Capito and three Virginia GOP leaders: Gov. Bob McDonnell, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and Rep. Eric Cantor, the House Majority Leader.
WLUR's live broadcast will resume at 6:45 p.m. Friday with the second session, highlighted by former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, who recently dropped out of the race for the Republican presidental nomination, as well as former Rep. J.C. Watts and Michigan Rep. Thaddeous McCotter.
Saturday morning brings the third session of the convention, with WLUR going live at 9:45 a.m. Speakers include political consultant Dick Morris, former senators George Allen and Fred Thompson, Rep. Bob Goodlatte and South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster.
Coverage of the convention's final session starts at 2:45 p.m. Saturday, with former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour as the featured speaker. The roll call vote for the nomination will also occur during this session.
