We do not often repeat trips, but when we do we are driven by an irresistible sense of necessity. In Paris, Burgundy, and Provence, one of the W&L Traveller's most popular tours, we'll renew our acquaintance with France's most fabled destinations: Paris, one of the world's loveliest and most sophisticated cities, and the regions of Burgundy and Provence, home to artists, poets, vintners, and gastronomes. For this 11-day tour, we've chosen a charming and convenient Paris hotel and the most comfortable river vessel on the Rhône, the Avalon Scenery.
Following two nights in Paris, the City of Light, we'll drive through the French countryside to Beaune in the heart of the Burgundy wine region. Once aboard the Avalon Scenery in Chalon-sur-Saône, we'll begin our immersion in the history and culture of central and southern France with visits to Tournus, Mâcon, and Lyon. We'll explore the twin cities of Tournon and Tain L'Hermitage along with Viviers, Avignon, and Arles before disembarking in Port St. Louis and exploring the Côte d'Azure, the French Riviera. There is also an optional extension to Provence, which includes the famous Roman architecture of Nimes, as well as one of France's most appealing small cities, Aix-en-Provence.
While the itinerary includes guided tours each day along with an informative on-board program of talks on music and French history and politics, our schedule presents several opportunities for optional excursions to those who want to explore the region more independently.
One of the most pleasant features of the tour is our home on the rivers. The Avalon Scenery is a beautiful vessel, offering elegant dining with complimentary local wines-a true highlight on this voyage through France's wine regions. Most staterooms have floor-to- ceiling sliding glass doors for fresh air and lovely views of the passing countryside. An experienced crew is dedicated to providing the best in passenger service.
Again in 2013, we expect the trip to be very popular, so we encourage your early response.
