Sara-Jane McDonald was the grand prize winner as WLUR hosted its first open mic night, Open Air Waves, of the 2011-12 school year on Thursday, November 3, in the Elrod Commons living room.
McDonald was tabbed as the evening's best act after winning first place in the Solo Music category. Drew Martin & the Limelights, fronted by Washington and Lee junior Drew Martin, were the top performers in Group Music, while Alex Minor '15 took first place in Spoken Word.
Bluegrass band Plank Road Express finished second in Group Music, while the E. Mann Band came in third. Scotty Groth '13 was selected as the second-place winner in Solo Music.
