Bill Barnhart '08 Researches VA Earthquake

Research on active seismic detection and shallow crust deformation brings alum back to Virginia.

Bill Barnhart is currently working on his PhD at Cornell. His lab is researching a fast-paced spur of the moment mission to monitor the recent Virginia (Mineral) earthquake. His lab shipped 100 Texan field seismometers to W&L's Geology Department and he used a classroom as a staging area before heading to Mineral to deploy the units. A number of USGS people were on the ground as well. Bill was quite happy to have Maya Reimi '12, Lizzy Mann '12, and Emily Flowers, Geology's lab tech, accompany the group and help with deployment.
