Since his days at W&L hiking the Blue Ridge and swimming at Goshen Pass, Erik has been inspired by the natural environment and has been interested in how humans can relate with the physical world in a healthy way. After 20 years in marketing and advocacy for groups involved in green issues, Erik is now working with Secure Futures, a company based just an hour from W&L in Staunton. The company installs and manages solar power systems, and it has developed an innovative system of financing to make solar panels affordable for private colleges and universities. In 2010, the company installed the largest solar power system in the state of Virginia at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg. In 2011, Secure Futures will help EMU expand its initial solar project of 104 kW to 400 kW.
In his spare time, Erik publishes Transition Voice, an online magazine with an international audience covering peak oil, climate change and the economy. Erik also helps other companies market and sell green products and services through his agency, the Curren Media Group.
