Advanced Field Study: Hawaii

The Geology of Hawaii with Elizabeth Knapp, Spring Term 2006

In the Spring of 2006, 19 students and 2 faculty in the department traveled to the Islands of Hawaii (the Big Island) and Oahu. There we got first- hand experience studying a wide range of active geologic processes, including volcanoes, tectonics and earthquakes. We investigated surface processes that shape the landscape including mass wasting, glaciation, shoreline and reef processes. We also were able to immerse ourselves in the fascinating culture of the Islands.
