Graduation Gift Will Benefit Others

from The Bridge: Fall 2010 issue

CommencemnetKatie Harris '10 got more than a bachelor's degree in business administration from W&L. A member of W&L Student Consulting and a minor in Environmental Studies, she traveled to South America to create a business plan for a community in the Brazilian Amazon. That experience, as well as her involvement on the tennis team and with the Shepherd Poverty Program, prepared her well for her career as an investment banking analyst at Deutsche Bank, in New York.

Her parents, H. Hiter and Jil Harris, of Richmond, Va., established the Harris Family Endowment to honor their daughter and to support programs that were integral to her college experience. "Washington and Lee's size and ability to bring diversity to a liberal arts and business regimen is really unique," said Hiter Harris. "Our gift to the University was a graduation present for Katie that not only will allow someone coming behind her to travel abroad, but also sets up a legacy of giving for her. We made the initial gift to this endowment, and have given her something to support at W&L, as well."
