Restoring an Earlier Beauty

from The Bridge: Fall 2010 issue

As parents of alumni Peter '08 and Ben '09 and current student Christina '12, Sally and Larry Lawrence, of Greenwich, Conn., have grown enamored with the campus ever since Peter entered W&L in 2004. The Lawrences, whose past gifts have supported the Parents Fund, established the Lawrence Challenge Fund in the Williams School of Commerce, and enabled renovations of the wrestling room and the squash courts in the Warner Center, have now given $500,000 for the Colonnade renovation.

"The Lawrence family is thrilled to be involved with the restoration of the Colonnade to its earlier beauty," said Sally Lawrence, who was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2009. "The Colonnade is the centerpiece of the Washington and Lee campus and symbolizes the school's long and wonderful history. It is where learning takes place today, and the restored buildings will be eligible for environmental certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program."
