Harry J. Phillips Jr. '72 is hardly a stranger to Washington and Lee's capital campaigns. He co-chaired the Houston-area committee that helped W&L raise $243 million during the For the Rising Generation campaign.
So when the co-chairs of the current campaign, Honor Our Past, Build Our Future, indicated that gifts to the Colonnade project were important to kick-start the campaign, Harry stepped up in a big way: $1 million for the Colonnade project.
"In addition to the Colonnade restoration's importance to the overall campaign, the image of the Colonnade is how many of us remember the University, so it is important for the Colonnade to be in tip-top shape now and into the future," said Phillips, president of Timberlake Interests Inc., in Houston. "Restoring and modernizing the Colonnade will provide space where teaching can occur that allows our professors and students to maximize the University's learning experience."
