from The Bridge: Fall 2009 issue
When Rob Lindsey '76 died unexpectedly in 2007, his former W&L lacrosse teammate, Ted Bauer '74, sought a way to honor him.
Bauer approached W&L about making a gift in Lindsey's memory. Bauer was happy to support the Lenfest Challenge, which would match his contribution and fund a high priority of the University. But instead of naming a professorship in honor of his late friend, Bauer and W&L took a more creative approach, creating an endowment to support faculty salaries and memorializing Lindsey at Wilson Field, where he was a football and lacrosse standout. The field now sports an insignia in one corner featuring Lindsey's initials and his jersey number, 11. A plinth near the field entrance celebrates Lindsey's contributions to W&L as a strong student, exceptional athlete and loyal alumnus.
