Stephen joined the W&L staff in September of 2006 as Director of Development for the Williams School and Regional Director of Development for the Washington, D.C. area. He travels frequently to Washington, D.C., and the surrounding areas to meet with alumni and friends about supporting Washington and Lee. Stephen also works with Dean Larry Peppers to identify those alumni and friends anywhere in the country who have a specific interest in the Williams School. "What I enjoy most about W&L are my colleagues in the Development Office and the Williams School and the beautiful setting in which we live and work," says Stephen. "I understand what alumni mean when they say they wish they were back in Lexington. It truly is a special place."
Before moving to Lexington, Stephen spent three and a half years at the University of Mississippi as a Development Officer for the engineering and law schools. He became interested in a development career after serving as a student volunteer for a capital campaign during his senior year at Virginia Tech. "I was fascinated by the alumni who, many years after graduating, gave of their time and talent so that I might have a better education. It was eye opening to see their efforts make such an impact." Through an ODK advisor who worked for the Virginia Tech Foundation, Stephen learned about a graduate program in Institutional Advancement at Vanderbilt which he later completed. Now, as a development professional, Stephen works with the same kinds of people he admired as a student.
