Renewing Your W&L Aid

Returning students receiving need-based grant assistance must re-apply each year. Please do not start your financial aid application until your 2013 federal tax returns are complete.

Eligibility for any federally funded need-based grant, federal student and/or parent loan, or federal work study requires the submission of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid.) FAFSA applications should be submitted by June 1, 2014 to ensure adequate time to process federal aid. You are not required to submit the institutional need-based application to receive federal aid.

The application for institutionally funded need-based grant (and the W&L Promise) consists of all the documents listed below including the FAFSA. The application must be submitted by the Financial Aid Application deadline if you wish to be considered for institutionally funded need-based grant or the W&L Promise.

January 1, 2014
The FAFSA becomes available online for completion.

June 1, 2014
All need-based financial aid application materials must be received by the Financial Aid Office.

  • CSS Profile for both custodial and non-custodial parents. Complete at least two weeks prior to the deadline.
  • 2013 federal tax returns including all schedules, W-2s, 1099s, etc for parents and students
  • 2013 federal tax returns for businesses including all schedules, K1, worksheets, etc, if applicable

Please note we do not accept application materials via fax or email. Please mail to W&L Financial Aid Office, 204 West Washington Street, Lexington, VA 24450.  You can also submit documents via electronic upload.

Late June
Financial aid award letters will be available via the web at Aid Status Online as applications are completed. Students who submit their applications after the deadlines will receive their award letters later in the summer.

Monitoring Your Status Online

Students are expected to monitor their Aid Status Online account to stay informed of what documents or actions are required of them.  After logging into the site, students should navigate to the "Items Requiring Your Attention" link to view current document status information.  Starting with the 2014-15 academic year, you will be able to submit your documents electronically to the Financial Aid Office.  Each document that is currently not received by the office will have an upload link next to it.  Clicking the upload button will take you to our new site which allows you to electronically submit your application documents.
