More than 130 students at W&L hold foreign citizenship, representing more than 50 nationalities in our student body. To encourage first-year international applicants, we automatically waive the $60 application fee for all international students.
To apply for admission, international students living outside the U.S.should submit an application that includes:

  • Completed application online -- The Common Application with W&L's Member Form (formerly the W&L Supplement)
    • The $60 application fee is automatically waived for international students.
  • 2 Teacher Recommendations
  • Secondary School Report with School Counselor Recommendation
  • Official High School Transcript with English translation
  • Official score reports from the TOEFL, IELTS, SAT or ACT (writing scores are not required on the SAT or ACT exams, and either version of the SAT satifies this requirement)

Interviews are not available for international students living abroad, except in the UK, Belgium, and Mexico. We do not offer Skype or phone interviews.

If you are an international student living in the U.S., please follow the same application instructions as first-year applicants.

We encourage you to explore the prospective student page with the Center for International Education.  It has helpful information, including a short video and written perspectives from current international students.

Transfer International Students

If you have enrolled full-time at another university, then you must apply as a transfer student. Please visit our page regarding transfer admissions. The testing requirements listed above are required for international transfer students.  Please note, there is no significant source of financial aid available to transfer students.
