Prospective Undergraduates

At Washington and Lee University we are committed to meeting 100% of your institutionally determined financial need using grant and work study assistance. Eligibility for the W&L Promise or any Need-based award is based on a careful assessment of the family's income and assets. These awards are available to any eligible student who completes the required financial aid documents by the relevant deadline.

Applying for Need Based Aid:

Application deadlines for submitting the Initial W&L Financial Aid Application are:

  • December 1, 2013 for Early Decision I 
  • January 15, 2014 for Early Decision II 
  • February 15, 2014 for Regular Decision 

Applying for Merit Scholarships:

The Johnson Scholarship application deadline is December 1, 2013 for prospective undergraduates. All Washington and Lee University merit scholarships are awarded through the Johnson Scholarship program. Selection for these awards is based on achievement in the classroom, leadership potential, and accomplishments in extracurricular endeavors.

Families with financial need are encouraged to apply for need-based aid as well. Merit awards for students with need can range from tuition, room, and board to the full cost of attendance.
