A sophomore was accused of Drunkenness in Public and Possession Under the Legal Age. He/She was found Guilty of Drunkenness in Public and Possession Under the Legal Age by a vote of 7-0. He/She was found Guilty of Violating the University Initiatives on Alcohol and Other Drugs by a vote of 7-0. He/She was found Guilty of Conduct Unbecoming of a Washington and Lee Student by a vote of 7-0. In lieu of suspension, the SJC assessed:

  • A strike.
  • A letter sent home to your parents.
  • Mandatory Alcohol education and counseling.  
  • $200 fine.
  • Conduct probation for one calendar year.
  • Social Probation for the fall semester of the 2007-2008 academic year.
  • 100 hours of community service to be completed in Rockbridge county.  Forty hours are to be completed during Fall term, forty during Winter term, and twenty during Spring term.

He/She was found Guilty of Underage Possession and Consumption by a vote of 9-0. He/She was found Guilty of Violating the University Initiatives on Alcohol and Other Drugs by a vote of 9-0. He/She was found Guilty of Conduct Unbecoming of a Washington and Lee Student by a vote of 9-0. In lieu of suspension, the SJC assessed:

  • Alcohol Education and Counseling

  • $100 Fine
  • Conduct Probation for 18 months
  • 100 hours of community service to be completed by the end of the 2007-2008 Academic  year.  Fifty of which must be completed within Rockbridge County

He/She was found Not Guilty of Underage Consumption and Possession  by a vote of 6-2. He/She was found Not Guilty of Violating the University Initiatives on Alcohol and Other Drugs by a vote of 5-3. He/She was found Not Guilty of Conduct Unbecoming of a Washington and Lee Student by a vote of 8-0. The same sophomore was also accused of Possession Under the Legal Age and Drunkenness in Public.  He/She was found Guilty of Possession Under the Legal Age and Drunkenness in Public by a vote of 8-0. He/She was found Guilty of Violating the University Initiatives on Alcohol and Other Drugs by a vote of 8-0. He/She was found Guilty of Conduct Unbecoming of a Washington and Lee Student by a vote of 8-0.   

In lieu of suspension, the SJC assessed:

  • A 2nd Strike
  • Alcohol Education and Counseling
  • Letter sent home to parents
  • $200 Fine
  • Conduct Probation through His/Her graduation
  • Social Probation until the end of the Fall Term of the 2007-2008 Academic Year
  • 150 hours of community service concurrent with court appointed hours

He/She was found Not Guilty of Driving Under the Influence by a vote of 10-0. He/She was found Not Guilty of Violating the University Initiatives on Alcohol and Other Drugs by a vote of 10-0. He/She was found Not Guilty of Conduct Unbecoming of a Washington and Lee Student by a vote of 9-1. The SJC assessed no sanctions.

  • A first strike
  • Conduct Probation for the remainder of the 2007-2008 academic year
  • Fifty hours of community service to be completed in Rockbridge County by the end of the 2007-2008 Academic school year, concurrent with any court appointed hours
  • $100 Fine

  • Conduct Probation for the remainder of the 2007—2008 academic year
  • A letter of apology sent to the witnesses of the incident

He/She was found Guilty of possession of illegal substances by a vote of 9—0. He/She was found Guilty of Violating the University Initiatives on Alcohol and Other Drugs by a vote of 9—0. He/She was found Guilty of Conduct Unbecoming of a Washington and Lee Student by a vote of 9—0.  The SJC assessed the following sanctions in lieu of suspension:

  • A first strike
  • Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Counseling
  • A letter sent home to parents
  • Conduct probation upon graduation of the 2008-2009 academic year. 
  • Social Probation for one calendar year
  • 175 hours of Community Service to be completed as follows:
    • 75 hours by the end of Winter Term 2008
    • 25 hours by the end of Spring term 2008
    • 75 hours by the end of fall term 2008
    • Half of the 175 hours must be completed within Rockbridge County. These hours are concurrent with any court appointed hours
  • $500 fine
