An overwhelming percentage of entering students list Study Abroad as one of the options they hope to take advantage of during their undergraduate careers. It would be helpful to students if as First-Year Adviser you were able to begin a conversation about study abroad opportunities early in your advising relationship. In order to assist you, the Center for International Education has listed some basic information below that should be helpful as advisees come to you with questions. Please do not hesitate to contact Kip Brooks (email@example.com) X8193 or Larry Boetsch (firstname.lastname@example.org) or go to the Center for International Education website (http://www.wlu.edu/x12128.xml) for additional information.
Your advisee may have attended the general study abroad overview presentation during orientation prior to your first meeting.

Study Abroad Options
Semester and full-year programs are usually aimed at students from the sophomore through the senior year and planning should begin 6-9 months in advance. All eligible students can study abroad and financial aid will travel abroad with the student.
Washington and Lee Spring Term Abroad programs are generally open to First Year students and the full list of STA courses will be announced in late September. Informational meetings will be held in October and students are asked to make decisions about STA programs no later than the beginning of January.
Study Abroad Information Sessions
Check the calendar for the Study Abroad Fair usually held late in September. The fair will have representatives from 25+ programs and W&L spring term abroad courses.
Information sessions for study abroad will be offered throughout the fall and winter terms.
Study Abroad Resource Library
Located in the Center for International Education, the Study Abroad Resource Library provides information about programs abroad available to Washington and Lee students for short-, one term- or full-year study abroad.
The Resource Library is open and available to students M - F, 8:30 - 4.
