Goodman, who was selected for the position during the SAAC's meetings at the recent NCAA Convention, joined the committee in 2007 as a representative of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. He succeeds Christine Lewis of Vassar in the post.
"This is a well-deserved honor for Isaiah, as he is an outstanding young man and the ideal person for the job," said W&L Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn. "I know he will represent the NCAA SAAC with distinction, as well as the ODAC and W&L SAAC, by extension. We couldn't be more proud and we wish him good luck in his role."
The Division III SAAC plays a key role in the division's governance, offering input on rules, regulations and policies that impact student‑athletes and providing insight into the student‑athlete experience. It has two voting members on the Division III Management Council and also is represented on Division III committees.
The SAAC's stated mission is to enhance the total student‑athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student‑athletes, protecting student‑athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student‑athlete image, while maintaining the tenets of the Division III philosophy.
"Two years ago, W&L didn't have a SAAC and I didn't even know what one was," said Goodman. "After helping start our campus SAAC, it's awesome to think that I could be elected to such a position in such a short amount of time. I am truly honored."
Goodman is the starting point guard and a team captain for the Generals' men's basketball team, which is having one of its best seasons in recent memory. W&L is 12-4 overall, 5-2 in the ODAC, and has won 11 of its last 13 games. Goodman has started all 16 contests to date and averages 8.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game. For his career, he has played in 89 contests and has totaled 686 points, 150 assists and 115 steals.
Active in the campus community, Goodman initiated the Captains Council, created to develop and improve the leadership skills of captains of varsity teams, and has served as a member of Washington and Lee Student Consulting, a student‑managed organization that provides consulting services for profit and nonprofit business and community organizations. He also serves as assistant head student dorm counselor and has served as an officer in a campus investment club, and has been selected for internships with two major corporations.
