Common Page Types

Choosing between a Detail page, Index page and Virtual Link

Content editors in the Ingeniux content management system are presented with several options upon creating a Content Page.

The Content page defaults to "Detail" in the Page Type drop-down at the top of the edit screen. A detail page is the most common content page type, with space for a title, subtitle, abstract and body copy. This page that you're reading is a detail page.

Other Common Page Types:

When a detail page doesn't accomplish all you need it to, you might consider choosing one of the following page types:

INDEX: A page that automatically indexes the titles, abstracts and thumbnail images of its children in the site tree. You may include body copy above the index, but most of the content is driven by content pulled from the page's children. The main Ingeniux Help page is an index page.

When creating an index page, it is important to fill out the " Required Page Info if 'Index' or 'Virtual Link'" field directly below the Page Type drop-down on the edit screen. Click on the down arrow at the side of the grey box to expand the field, and in the Index Page Navigation box, select Type > Children and Order > Down. If you are indexing the children of the page you are creating, you may leave the Start Page box blank. If you prefer to index the children of another page in the tree, enter the xID of that page (i.e. x12345.xml).

VIRTUAL LINK: A page that automatically redirects a site visitor to another page. You may include a title, subtitle and abstract text for indexing purposes, but no body copy is necessary, as this page type just provides a link to another page.

When creating a virtual link, it is important to fill out the " Required Page Info if 'Index' or 'Virtual Link'" field directly below the Page Type drop-down on the edit screen. Click on the down arrow at the side of the grey box to expand the field, and then expand the Virtual Link Settings section. Fill in the destination URL (including http://) in the Destination field, or browse to link to a document that you have uploaded to the Ingeniux server using the Assets upload button. If you are linking to a page outside of the Ingeniux CMS or a document, it is recommended that you check the "Check box to launch link in new window" box.

PAGE TYPES NOT TO USE: The page types labeled TwoCol, ThreeCol and BigIndex are for administrative use only. Please contact a member of the Web Communications team if you think you would like to use one of these page types on your site.
