Two Washington and Lee student-athletes were honored as the ODAC Player of the Week in their respective sports on Monday. Senior Stacy Doornbos (Roswell Ga./Lassiter) was tabbed as the Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week, while senior Lindsay Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Governor’s School) was named Swimmer of the Week.
Doornbos finished first among all Division III athletes in the pentathlon and set a school-record with 3,174 points at the Liberty Invitational on Friday. Doornbos’ point total also qualifies her for the NCAA National Meet. She clocked a 9.42 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, cleared 1.47 meters in the high jump, recorded 10.01 meters in the shot put, cleared 5.18 meters in the long jump and finished the 800 meters in 2:35.74.
Strachan, who won the award for the second consecutive week, won the 200 back (2:10.12), the 200 butterfly (2:18.97) and swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:53.71) as W&L defeated Marymount, 151-110, on Saturday.
The W&L swim teams return to action on Saturday as they travel to Johns Hopkins for an 11:00 am meet, while the indoor track and field teams head to Bucknell on Friday for the two-day Bucknell Open and Multi's. Day one is slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
