The Old Dominion Athletic Conference awarded W&L junior outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) its Player of the Year Award on Monday.
Phillips posted 365 kills and 367 digs in leading the Generals to a 31-6 overall record, a 10-0 mark in the ODAC and their eighth-straight ODAC Championship. Phillips' mark of 3.29 kills per game placed her third in the league. This is the second-straight year that Phillips has been selected First-Team All-ODAC.
Joining Phillips on the first team was senior right side Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg). Ulrich, also being honored on the first team for the second-consecutive year, totaled 290 kills, 237 digs and 25 service aces. On Saturday, Ulrich was also named the MVP of the ODAC Tournament for the second time in her career.
Junior setter Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) was named an honorable mention selection. Steinhardt led W&L with 902 assists and added 221 digs and 32 service aces.
Virginia Wesleyan head coach Andrea Hoover was tabbed as the league's Coach of the Year, while the Marlins' Rebecca Leedom was named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete. Rachel Fertitta of Emory & Henry was selected as Rookie of the Year and Randolph College was awarded with the Team Sportsmanship Award.
W&L is in action in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday when it takes on Mt. St. Joseph at 1:00 pm at Wittenberg University.
