Washington and Lee University garnered the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's athlete of the week honors for the sports of field hockey, women's cross country and women's soccer for the week ending September 28.
Junior forward Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John's) was named the ODAC field hockey player of the week, while senior Jessica Shaw (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) received the conference women's cross country athlete of the week honor. Senior forward Anne Van Devender (Jackson, Miss./Choate Rosemary Hall) garnered the weekly ODAC award for women's soccer.
Armstrong led W&L to a 1-1 record last week. She scored the Generals' lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Lynchburg on Saturday and tallied two markers in a 3-1 win over St. Mary's (Md.) on Sunday. Currently, the W&L field hockey team is 2-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Shaw led Washington and Lee to a ninth-place finish out of 35 schools at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday. She finished ninth overall out of 485 runners with a time of 23:07.2. The meet included nine of the Top 35 teams in Division III.
Van Devender totaled five goals and four assists over a 2-1 week. She registered two goals and two assists in an 11-0 victory over Hollins on Tuesday, one goal and two assists in a 4-3 overtime loss to No. 1 Messiah on Saturday and two goals in an 11-0 triumph over Randolph on Sunday. On the season, the Generals are 5-3 overall and have a 3-1 mark in the ODAC.
