On any outdoor adventure, it is always a good idea to have a group member who has been trained in Wilderness First Aid. A wilderness situation has its own unique problems when an accident happens, as help and proper first aid equipment may be hours away. The keys to quality first aid in the wilderness are common sense and good judgment, supplemented with proper training and a good first aid kit. If you spend a lot of time in the outdoors you ought to take a Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder course.

First Aid Kits

First aid kits should contain as much as you are willing to carry and should contain only things you know how to use. To the right is a list of things you may want to carry with you in your first aid kit. Tailor your first aid kit to your activity and to the people on your trip.
