PE Classes

PE 174 Introduction to Backpacking

Never backpacked before? Want a taste of what the area has to offer? This class will introduce you to basic backpacking skill as well as introduce you to the area. This consists of a day hike every week as well as a class on a skill, such as outdoor cooking, knots and tarps, and using a compass.

PE 180 Wilderness Leadership

This Outing Club will be offering an Outdoor Leadership Class for all those that wish to lead trips whether it's for the Outing Club, Appalachian Adventure, or summer camp work. The classes will focus on teaching hard skills, working with groups, and learning Wilderness First Aid. The only prerequisite is a strong background in backpacking for ex-ample a NOLS or Outward Bound course, a previous PE backpacking class, or Appalachian Adventure.

PE 195 Outdoor Activities

This course will be taught pending student interest and availability of an instructor. The subject of this course will be announced each term and will cover one of the following subjects: rock climbing, SCUBA, ropes course facilitation, orienteering, caving, kayaking, or fly fishing.
