Washington and Lee University earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Athlete of the Week awards for men's basketball and women's indoor track & field for the week ending January 27.
Senior Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) was named men's basketball player of the week, while junior Elizabeth Webb (Middlebury, Va./Wakefield) earned indoor track & field athlete of the week.
Bienemann helped Washington and Lee to a 3-0 week by averaging 27.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 blocks and 0.7 steals per game. He shot 73.5 percent (36-49) from the floor in scoring 83 points over the three contests. He began the week with a career-best 36-point, nine-rebound effort in a 115-106 win at Emory & Henry. He followed that performance with 24 points and 11 rebounds in a 77-62 win over Lynchburg on Saturday, then tallied 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting in a 66-51 win over Hampden-Sydney, W&L’s first win over the Tigers in 10 seasons.
For the season, Bienemann is averaging 22.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. He also shoots 61.1 percent (138-226) from the field and has moved into 11th place on the all-time scoring list at W&L with 1,355 career points.
Webb was the top overall collegiate finisher in the mile at the Liberty Open on Saturday. Her time of 5:07.36 is a school and an all-time ODAC record. Overall, the Generals had four first-place finishes and 19 Top 10 finishes among Division III athletes and set three school records over the weekend.
The Washington and Lee men's basketball team is (10-5,6-2) and returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 pm contest. The indoor track & field teams compete Saturday at the VMI Relays at 8:30 am.
